About ACCORD

The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is a South African-based civil society organisation working throughout Africa to bring creative African solutions to the challenges posed by conflict on the continent. ACCORD’s primary aim is to influence political developments by bringing conflict resolution, dialogue and institutional development to the forefront as an alternative to armed violence and protracted conflict. ACCORD specialises in conflict management, analysis and prevention and intervenes in conflicts through mediation, negotiation, training, and research and conflict analysis.

Mission Talent Recruitment has been tasked by ACCORD with providing an exclusive search for the position of the Coordinator: Interventions Department (Peacebuilding)

 

Tasks & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, the Coordinator of the Interventions Department (Peacebuilding) is to lead the coordination and implementation of all initiatives in the Peacebuilding Unit. S/he has to provide support to the Manager of the Interventions Department in meeting the objectives and implementation of the Peacebuilding. The specific tasks are, but are not limited to:

1) Coordinating the operational design and planning for the unit:

  • Developing a detailed implementation plan for the Interventions Department (Peacebuilding);
  • Identifying all the activities, events, seminars & research outputs;
  • Coordinating strategic planning and operational design for the unit;
  • Planning, organizing and implementing each output;
  • Designing & fundraising for grants for new activities and peacebuilding interventions.

2) Coordinating the outputs and overseeing the implementation of activities within the Unit:

  • Managing the implementation of activities against the year plan;
  • Co-ordinating the assessment and review of the unit;
  • Administering management;
  • Liaising and networking with stakeholders and representing ACCORD at functions;
  • Researching, writing and co-authoring articles.

3) Personnel Management:
Coordinating personnel in the unit.

4) Financial Management:

  • Preparing the annual budgets for the unit;
  • Monitoring the financial planning and expenditure for each unit activity;
  • Liaising with donors.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree in International Relations with Peace and Security Specialisation;
  • 3-5 years operational and programme experience in the peacebuilding area with at least one – two years management experience;
  • Substantive knowledge in the field of peacebuilding in Africa that integrates policy, practice and research and addresses emerging issues in peace and security;
  • Fluency in English and French is essential;
  • Ability to conceptualise and analyse complex information;
  • Attention to detail, plan and prioritise work, & meet deadlines to successfully deliver to a diversity of objectives and demands.
